The Life of Things

How Many Voices?

In a world of isolated memories and countless discarded moments, as seen through Gardiner's lens.

By Gardiner Hallowell

Published

The Life Of Things is a monthly video essay that explores time, memory, and our relationship with life artifacts. Through a combination of documentary and personal essay, Gardiner uses compiled archival videos to invite audiences to reflect on the beauty, complexities, and contradictions found in the world around us.

In a world of isolated memories and countless discarded moments, the weight of unseen voices and the overwhelming noise of new data on the Internet create a sense of isolation. While each individual artifact holds meaning on its own, the collective deluge of images and sounds becomes insuperable, leaving the past vague and the future elusive.
